May Contain Iron

Raising money and raising awareness to help people suffering from food allergy

What is food to one, is to others bitter poison”    Titus Lucretius Carus, a Roman philosopher-poet

Welcome to May Contain Iron!

May Contain is a term used on packaging to warn those with food allergies. The Iron(man) triathlon is the challenge I'm taking on to help those with food allergies.

In 2025 I am investing my time and energy to support food allergy charities. I'll be raising awareness of food allergy issues (anaphylaxis, the Epipen, cross-contamination, etc) and I'll be raising money for the Natasha Allergy Research Foundation.

This is me, Paul, hauling my frame around a triathlon a few years ago. Today, I am older, greyer but plainly no wiser!

In 2025 I shall undertake the Copenhagen Ironman Triathlon (swim 2 miles, cycle 112 miles, then run a marathon) to raise awareness and funds for the amazing Natasha Allergy Research Foundation. I am self-funding my event: I'll pay for all travel, accommodation and kit. All donations will go directly to the charity.

Over the last 20 years, food allergy has been a dominant feature of our family life. Every meal, every snack, every day we have to ensure the food we purchase doesn’t even include "May Contain".

Follow me on my journey to prepare for the IronMan. Be warned: it will not be pretty! I anticipate pain and tears but will seek respite in laughter and your support.

Today 6-8% of 1-3 year olds in the UK suffer food allergies, as do 6% adults.

It's a growing problem.
